A Berry Happy Thanksgiving
Posted by Ann Wildes at
Did you know blueberries were served at the very first Thanksgiving? According to legend, when Europeans first arrived on this continent, Native Americans gave blueberries to the pilgrims to help them survive their first winter.
Many historians believe it was part of the first Thanksgiving feast, made into what Native Americans called “Sautauthig.”
One of the first blueberry baked goods, Sautauthig is a simple pudding made from blueberries, cracked corn and water. The pilgrims liked to add milk, butter and sugar to the original recipe (we can’t blame them!), which is believed to have graced the table of that first-ever Thanksgiving meal.
This Thanksgiving, we enjoy our time-honored family traditions around our holiday table and wish everyone a wonderful holiday feast – whatever those traditional recipes and activities include.
From football to turkey and pumpkin and blueberry pies for dessert, Thanksgiving is a day we can celebrate all of life’s simplest indulgences.
We are thankful to have our health, our family and friends. And we are so thankful to all of our Blueberry Barn supporters who have helped us along the way!
Finally, of course, we are so thankful for the Georgia blueberry. This year’s harvest blessed us with the blueberries we incorporated into the products we love so much, and we hope you’ll enjoy some of them throughout this holiday season, shared with your loved ones.
Happy Thanksgiving y’all!
